Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba, met today in the temporary capital, Aden, with representatives of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) operating in Yemen to discuss ways to strengthen coordination and improve the effectiveness of humanitarian and development efforts across the country.
Dr. Al-Zouba reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the work of international organizations and facilitating their operations in ways that enhance the implementation of donor-funded programmes and projects. She noted that the Ministry is working to simplify administrative procedures through a broader digital transformation agenda, including the launch of a One-Window Platform, which will serve as a single entry point for processing approvals and permits related to the work of international organizations.
The Minister explained that the government’s programme is built around several key priorities, including promoting stability, improving essential public services, advancing economic reforms, strengthening governance and state institutions, and enhancing the social protection system.
She also called for continued support for Yemen’s National Recovery Plan, expanded efforts to build local capacities and utilize qualified national professionals, and stronger international partnerships with development partners and donors.
Dr. Al-Zouba emphasized the importance of gradually transitioning from emergency humanitarian response to sustainable development programmes that generate long-term benefits for local communities. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with international partners to advance this transition in line with Yemen’s development needs.
Representatives of the international NGOs expressed their appreciation for the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen coordination with international partners and emphasized the importance of maintaining regular dialogue to address challenges affecting project implementation, particularly those related to administrative approvals and coordination with sectoral authorities.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to continuing cooperation with the Government of Yemen to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian and development programmes and enhance service delivery for communities across the country’s governorates.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to holding regular coordination meetings to exchange views on funding opportunities, discuss common challenges, and strengthen cooperation in support of humanitarian and development efforts in Yemen.
