The Republic of Yemen participated today in the Global Partnerships Conference, hosted in London, with a delegation led by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba.
Held from 19 to 20 May, the conference brings together global leaders, policymakers, and representatives of governments, international organizations, development and humanitarian agencies, financial institutions, the private sector, and civil society to discuss ways to modernize the international development cooperation system in response to rapidly evolving global challenges. Discussions also focus on strengthening partnerships among governments, international financial institutions, donors, civil society, and the private sector.
During the opening session, speakers from the organizing institutions emphasized the need to move toward a more equitable partnership model based on national ownership, support for countries’ development plans and priorities, and stronger national institutions as the foundation for sustainable development. They also highlighted the importance of addressing the widening development financing gap amid declining aid flows and growing humanitarian and development needs, while calling for greater collective action to address shared challenges, including regional crises and climate change.
Yemen’s participation reflects the Government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s engagement in international forums on development and international cooperation, highlighting Yemen’s priorities and aspirations for recovery and reconstruction, and advocating for a greater shift from humanitarian assistance toward development investments and institutional resilience. It also underscores the importance of deepening partnerships between the Republic of Yemen and its international partners.
During the conference, Dr. Al-Zouba is scheduled to participate in a number of high-level sessions and bilateral meetings with ministers, senior officials, and representatives of international institutions. She will also deliver remarks outlining Yemen’s vision and national priorities in the fields of humanitarian action and sustainable development.
